::reality check::
Eating corn on the cob is even MORE delicious when you have to work a little harder.....
especially when you don't have any front teeth!

We baked a cake
And it wasn't any one's birthday. Simon, my little baker, bakes some sort of sweet treat once a week - more often if I'm willing to be the assistant baker. Last week, we made chocolate chip cookies and gingerbread planes. We didn't get to each many of the planes because the dog got them. That was a sad moment.

This is the UFO of the week. It will be complete by Saturday... I have a goal this summer to finish up or move them on to someone who might want to finish them. I have sent some to goodwill. I have actually finished a few. BUT this one...I'm going to finish and put by the back door or by the kitchen sink. THEN I'm starting a new quilting project!
This little guy is growing his legs. No frog hunting today - it's raining again.

Election Day...
No I am not going to spout my electoral views BUT I am going to say that I voted this morning on the way to work...I do have one complaint. GET A HEARING AID!!! I shouldn't have repeat my name 4 or 5 times before you, election volunteer, get it. Only to repeat the process again at the next table 15 minutes later.
I have an office day, ahhh. I had great plans to get lots done and so far... I have facebooked, you-tubed and now blogged. The you-tubing was related to work though...I sat and watched about 15 "It gets better" videos in ASL. It was interesting to see I how well I understand adults signing compared to kids.
The long weekend was just what was needed. We had tons of fun outside making a fort and walking the trails. I got another square done.
AND Simon lost his first tooth. "Finally something good is happening in my life!"
I'll try to post pictures later this week.
Ok, it's time to eat some lunch (smile) and get to work.
Enjoy your day AND don't forget to vote!

Sometimes....

For example:
Last night we all went to bed early. The weather was terrible all weekend and we were getting on each others nerves - in a serious way. Everyone was in his or her room reading or playing with action figures or just resting. When Kal came into our room I was working on a crossword. Here's the exchange.
Kal: What are you working on?
Me: Crossword (one word answers work the best to keep the concentration going)
K: How many have you done?
Me: 2, but the last one stumped me. What's a word that means the same as eggshaped?
Simon: oval (quietly)
K: How many letters?
Me: 4, I know I'm over thinking this...
S: oval (a little louder)
K: ellipse?
Me: 4 letters - means eggshaped
S: It's an OVAL (shouted from his bedroom).
Me: WOW that fits - Thanks buddy.
K: (whispers) that's kind of scary isn't it??

The third times a charm
Simon decided that he wanted to start karate over break. He told EVERYONE that he was starting and that he couldn't wait...
Well, the first day, he cried and cried when he put on his gi and it was "too big" and felt "yucky" and "smelled like horse" - his go to phrase of hate. There was no way he was going to go out onto the mat. The second time, he had to be removed from the gym because of the tantrum he threw. He wore his Dad and I out.
The third time was last night. Here's how the conversation went
ME: Ok guys it's time to get dressed for karate.
S: ok (and he goes and gets dressed).
M: Simon I'm not arguing with you tonight. You either go on the mat or you don't, but if you decide not to participate you are not going to hang on me.
S: ok
We drive to karate.
Ian: Ready Simon
S: Yup.
They went out together. Then Simon raced back for a hug and went back onto the mat.
Afterwards, Simon said he didn't know what he was so afraid for - that was a blast.
This morning, he asked if he had karate tonight.

Peticure
Part of last night's dinner conversation.....
Me: I'm going to meet Anne for a girl's day.
K: When?
M: November 14th. We are going to meet in Beaver Dam for pedicures.
Simon: Beaver Dam?
M: Yup.
S: Why are you taking Eddie (the cat) and Shadow (the dog) to Beaver Dam for petacures? What ARE you going to do to them?
