Finished objects

Crafting has been slow going BUT I did finish some things.

Alive and hiking

Yesterday was beautiful! And we went for a hike at Blue Mounds State Park. The only one who wanted to go in the beginning was Kal. It was his suggestion, but the rest of us had lots of things on the to do list. The boys wanted to hang out with their friends at the "secret" hide out. I just wanted to stay home and get stuff done around the house.

I'm glad Kal persisted and we went because we had a blast climbing the towers and hiking and stopping for soda and chips on the way home.

Guess where I took this picture??

Two weeks in....

So we are now into school a whole two weeks. I have some really cool pics of the boys first day (they are still on the camera). I think that Zoe told be that I can get a chip to send my pics straight to my computer - I need to find that OR someone needs to invent it. What is it about connecting the cord from the camera to the computer that is so hard??

Oh the boys are doing well. They still like their teachers. Simon seems to be writing more (don't know about the reading) and Ian's homework load varies from day to day. He, however, is reading like a pro.

I am driving in a HUGE circle this year for work. My average is about 240 miles a day - my short day is Wednesday - if you care and I only drive 90 miles. My days are full and I have some really interesting students but the days are also long which I am not compensated for. So if you have issues with teachers and their pay or hours look a bit further than the one that stand/sits at the front of your child's classroom. There are others out there who travel to see students in your school who are not represent by the local teachers group. They aren't in it for the money (no teachers are), they do it for the students. BUT this blog is not about my 6:15 - 4:40 job...

There has been some crafting (once again the pics are on the camera). Hopefully I will get some of them up here soon.

take care everyone,
kari

Augh!

Have I told you that I started the c25K. I'm actually in the end of week 3 - half way to a 5K. I have a plan to run around Monona Bay before doing a real 5K. Those plans are on hold.

I really like the program because it starts so gradually. I've been doing so good - no shin splints.... NONE! I usually get them within 4 or 5 times of running - not this time. While running, I was listening to podcasts of knitting, cooking and running and had a great idea! I should probably listen to some music. Not knowing how to load music that I want to listen to (you see my husband loads the music because I don't want to learn how to do it), I looked into so apps for said music. There are lots of free ones that are good - just go to podcasts and look up running music. I thought to myself that I should kick it up a notch and listen to music that was about 140 beats per minutes. I guess that is close a 9 minute mile. I think I am at about an 11 or twelve minute mile. HAH! It felt so good to do the running yesterday until late afternoon.  I guess along with pushing myself to far that I didn't stretch out enough. Is that possible? I could barely walk. To top it off I went to karate - mistake! I have really agravated my plantar fasciitis.

I've finally got a plan AND am committed to it, to get fit, and loose a butt load of weight (pun intended). It is a long term plan so I will not to get discouraged about having to take some time off of exercise. I'm  giving myself a week off of karate and my walk/run schedule. I may start biking next week. I am getting re-aquainted with stretching and ice. Yuck.... I AM doing a 5K in October. If I have to walk it, I will.

The boys have a new station on Pandora called kidzbop. It has all kinds of current music usually sung by kids. I don't mind it. While cleaning his room, found those funky glasses you get from the eye doctor after dialation and made up a dance to the black eyed peas.

A clean room...

Sometimes I find that cleaning helps clear out more than just the obvious junk. Last week, I cleaned out the sewing/music room. I only touched the fabricy, yarny stuff. And it felt so good. I took out a large trash bag for the garbage, 2 bags to goodwill, and 1 bag full of bits of fabric for a kids quilting unit.

Here's the view from the door. See that doll bed on the right with the bears -  it had two big baskets of fabric and projects. I semi-finished two of the projects and they moved over to the shelves on the left. I also made a cover for my sewing machine. It has been in the works for a couple of years. Do you have any projects that laze around in your brain until one day they just "appear"?

The view from the chair behind my sewing machine.

I've been toying with this shelving unit since I got it eons ago. In the first re-arrangement of the room, it moved out of the closet and under the window. The projects were stacked in there. Kept saying that I would complete them, but I would start another one. So I finally gave myself permission to put them away. Away went the quilt I was making for my parents 30th wedding anniversary. They will be married 45 years this year (right Mom?).  Away went the wedding quilt with squares that people created for us from our wedding - 12 years ago this June... Fabric that I was keeping just for me went back into it's color family drawer. This is what was left. Two quilt tops that I completed this summer - just need backs and to be quilted.  Two quilt tops that are soooo close to being done. A wall hanging. A bag. The spines that need to be sewed into the dresdan plates. The bottom shelf has projects that I wasn't ready to put in a drawer or send on yet.

I felt so much better - I said that didn't I? It helped with my boredom and gave me something else to focus on besides Kal finding a new job, like ASAP. I wasn't fighting with the boys - they were outside playing.

Cleaning out, making room....maybe it's what we all need to be in a better mood!

A summer happiness

This is one of my favorite summer "things" or maybe I should say "end of summer" things.

See that little tan line. Go back, it's ok. I love it when the boys get there back to school haircuts. Don't ask me why, but it's one of my pleasures.
