Sometimes you have to start something new

I made a bunch of these little socks a few years ago. They are really fun to make. So last night whilst taking a break from the barn raising squares, I made this one. I see more of them in my future.

The boys are already gone with gma and gpa to the vacation house. They put the next Gregor the Overlander book in the cd player and were off.

The topic for tomorrow is dyslexia and Tuesday is better customer service - some lady is coming from Culver's to speak to us (just in case you were wondering what my agenda is for the beginning of the week). Customer service for teachers? Remember I work for a CESA, the agency sells my low incidence spec. ed. services to school districts for a fee.

Where has the week gone?

My gosh. Tomorrow is Friday. Can you believe it?? This week has flown by for me. It hasn't been busy - no extra work or school meetings. I actually got to go to Monday night knitting and exercise class on Tuesday night. I think the week off from work was just what I needed because I was dragging for what seemed like year (from mid January to the end of March).

My flower gardens are all cleaned off and waiting for mulch - maybe this weekend. There was snow on them this morning, but it was melting as I left for work.

I've also been busy in the craft room too. I have the wall hanging ready to quilt (de ja vu - I think I wrote that before). I was looking at the stack of left over fabric and realized that I only had enough to put a hanger on the back, not enough for the binding. I do however have a really nice project bag made from some of the material in the quilt - guess I didn't figure I needed that!

Magic loop - I'm in love with you. Here are the class project socks.
I've got another pair almost done. And figured out how to do the barn-raising squares magic loop style (two of those done).

Reading over this makes me think I am in a manic crafting phase - not so much - just enjoying learning something new.

Take care everyone. Stay warm.

Ehhemm....

I have to disclose something. I was a braggart.

Remember last week when I said I went to exercise class... and I said that I only hurt a little bit... Last Wednesday....Well....I went to exercise class again on Saturday....And I hurt...still today....I have a hard time sitting down....I have a hard time standing up....It hurts to lift my arms from my sides....This is my "punishment" for telling every single soul that I came across that I started an exercise class and I only hurt a little bit... I over did it... But I'm going back on Tuesday night....

I'll try not to be a braggart anymore. Ok I'll try not to brag about the getting fit thing, I might have to brag about my kids OR husband OR some project that I complete that is really cool or I do in record time.

p.s. I really like knitting socks magic loop style - I might even finish a pair in less than a month - braggart - I know :)

Crafting A.D.D.

I have been busy on the crafting front. Right now I have a bunch of stuff started. I really wish I was one of those people who could do one project at a time - I'm not. To be honest, this is not all of the projects I have started. I'm not even going to count.
This is a disappearing 9 patch. It is an easy pattern and with the coordinating fabrics the 9 patch actually disappears (it would probably disappear without coordinating fabrics). It will be wall hanging size.

I love the Oz fabrics from moda. I bought a bunch (10) charm packs to make a stacked coin quilt for our bed. It's been fun so far, but I am only through 2 charm packs. Ask me about it in a few more packs.
I have been taking a class to learn magic loop (also to knit uninterrupted for 2 hours for a couple of Sundays). This is the most loved heal flap. It was knit and reknit several times due to the people around me counting or saying the pattern out loud. Ok people.... it is not necessary to repeat a two step knit slip over and over OR slip one purl, purl, purl......
I was pretty frustrated because I have knit socks before - many socks... and I couldn't even get the heal flap to come out right.

A Thank you gift

Lisa's sock (sockotta yarn)

My friend Lisa did a lot of the edited of my master's papers, which by the way are done- no more papers in APA, papers- yes - APA NO! I have been trying to figure out how to thank her.

She likes coffee, already made, imagine Starbucks drive-thru, so I thought about giving her a gift card. I just hadn't gotten around to it (I finished my masters work in November 09- not too long ago).

The other day, we were sitting at our desks talking. I was doing government work (surfing the net for knitting projects) and she was looking over my shoulder saying it would be nice to have something like this or that. And it occurred to me that I had a pair of socks that were almost complete....I took the finished one out of my bag and asked her to try it on (which she didn't, she held it up to her foot - you have to know Lisa) and said it looked like a perfect fit.

Today I put the pair on her desk. Tomorrow she will be able to wear a pair of hand-knit "thank you" socks. I don't know if she will change her socks, but if it was me and someone gave me a pair of knit socks I would INSTANTLY shed the store bought ones I had on in favor of the hand knits.

happy day everyone...
