He finally did it. Last weekend, Kal received his master's in bio tech. I think were were all happy for him to be done!

He asked me to make him a quilt, so we googled dna quilt and up popped a pattern by Jay Bird Quilts called Fast Forward. The pattern was so well written. I had it machine quilted by Gael Boyd of Stitch Lilly here in Madison. She did a great job.

Cowboy Camp out

Every year the music teacher at the boys' school picks a day toward the end of the year to have a cowboy camp out. Each class has a designated day so cowboy gear lasts over a week. It's fun to see all of the kids at their school decked out in cowboy gear. It's also funny because we live in a little town close to big university city where there are very few cowboys....

I love that they come home singing cowboy songs from the trail. Humming Red River Valley and that one about the drifting tumble weed. Makes me want to get out my Michael Martin Murphey cowboy songs c.d.

some days are better than others - today was not one of those days

This morning was another morning when the boys just wouldn't go. If I could be late for work - today would have been one of those days. They just screwed around. AND I needed to get gas in my car.

Then I had a major anxiety attack about Kal's job search. He's applying all over the place, but hasn't heard back from ANY of them. My work contract comes in a couple of weeks and I talked to the business manager today to "inform them of my situation". Which is???

Ian is having friend issues - same old thing. It makes me sad. He thinks that he needs to brag to a friend (not in my opinion) in order to keep him as a friend. What a friend!!

While I was boiling water for supper, I melted the above pan to the burner. That's what I get for walking away to help. I turned on the wrong burner. I have to admit it was pretty cool. I think I got it all off the burner. Now I have to see if the burner still works.

Mother's Day

It has been a pretty good day... breakfast in bed, lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings

some quilting
The boys thought it was warm enough to run through the sprinkler... We don't have a sprinkler, so they used the gutter cleaner... ingenuity
A little while longer and it became some sort of weapon.
Then they moved on to the garden.

I know I probably should have told them to stop. Actually, I did - they didn't listen and I really wasn't committed to getting them to stop. I liked listening to them and the stories that were going along with the "lava field".

Hope you  had a good weekend and a wonderful Mother's Day!

Science Fair

The science fair is tonight. We are almost ready for it....The pictures have to be glued onto the poster board and I have to convince Simon to put on a short sleeve shirt with his camo shorts. As opposed to the sleeveless one, he went to school in this morning. Can you believe that the kid is going to school in sleeveless shirts in March?? It was close to 80 yesterday... He wanted to be prepared for today.

The terrariums turned out great and they do show the water cycle (I'm back on the science fair projects, if you were concerned about the shift in content). The boys like them and understand how the water cycle works so I guess that is all that really matters.

Enjoy.

First fire

The weather has been beautiful for several days. It's supposed to be even nicer tomorrow. Don't know how that could be for mid March, but I'll take it. Day after tomorrow we could have snow (the forecast says no, but weather is changeable).

The boys have been asking for a fire, so tonight was the night. A small fire and roasted marshmallows. The smell of burnt sugar was divine.

Happy Valentine's Day

Hello Everyone. Yes I am still around - just really busy (like everyone else - no market to corner here).

Remember how in the last post I was talking about my favorite Ace Hardware and how they have EVERYTHING??? Well today I was there looking for lego people (didn't have) and Green Bay Packer flannel (didn't have). I had to compromise with no lego people and camouflage flannel.

What they did have FLOWERS. Gobs and gobs of cut  flowers, not ones in dirt to plant later. Those will come out in another month or so. And there were at least 5 gentlemen in front of me in line with flowers. I smiled.

Think of it. The guy is going to the hardware store for duct tape or bolts or birdseed or whatever... and walks right past a HUGE display of a variety of cut flowers. "oh yah" he thinks to himself.... how convenient.

take care,
kari
